You need to know these 2 things!

If you are serious (and you should be) about growing your business with the help of your website (internet marketing), then you need to know these 2 things:

1) Add new content to your website on a regular basis (daily if possible).
2) Ensure your new content is relevant and interesting to your viewers so they want to keep coming back.

Why? Because search engines such as Google, play favorite to websites which update regularly with interesting and relevant content. Google knows very well that regularly updated websites will be of more interest to visitors (your prospects and customers). How many times do you read an edition of your local newspaper? If it's interesting content, then your visitors will keep coming back and this results in increased traffic, which results in better rankings in the Google's search engines. Make sense?

Did you hear your prospect go bump in the night?

Someone visits your website at any time of day, and from any place in the world. The most important thing to understand is - they did not get there by accident. They are on your website because they either manually typed your website address, or they found a link to your site and clicked on it. Either way, being on your site was intentional.

The very first step in internet marketing is
KNOW if and when someone was on your site. If you don't know, is that any different than having a prospect in your store while all your employees are out of view in the back? A prospect was there, and you didn't even know it!

Knowing whether someone visits your site is accurately achieved through
website analytics. A unique tracking code is embedded (invisibly) on every page of your website. This code will tell you such things as: which pages are viewed, for how long they are viewed, how they got to your site, and more! Consider this HOT TIP, if you have pages on your website which are not being viewed, or are only being viewed for a few seconds - why not remove them or redesign them to increase the view times and effectiveness?

Here's a
HOT NEWS ITEM: In my inspection of 100's of websites over the past number of months, I have found less than 5% contain analytics code. Some of these websites were from reputable companies! I would bet a roll of loonies less than half of those 5% actually read and understand the analytics reports. I would ALSO bet a roll full of toonies less than half of THOSE companies take action to improve the effectiveness of their websites.

If the average corporate website has 100's to 1000's of visitors per month, then wouldn't it make sense to
track the visitors with website analytics? And, wouldn't it ALSO make sense to make the necessary changes in website content to increase the length and frequency of these visits?

Google provides FREE Google Analytics which covers most of important points of website analytics. However, there are other providers who offer more sophisticated website analytics for a small monthy fee.
